Tornillo Scientific is run by scientists for scientists. The members of our team all have advanced postgraduate degrees and many years of experience working in academia and/or industry. Most remain actively involved in research. Our editors and consultants understand the unique demands of the academic environment and of scientific research.

Tornillo Scientific works within the Earth, Environmental, and Geographical sciences. Our team has expertise in the various sub-disciplines of Geology, Geophysics, Space Physics, Geography, Hydrology, Oceanography, and Environmental Science. What is a Tornillo?
Tornillo Scientific is named after a type of low-frequency volcanic earthquake. Tornillo, which means ‘screw’ in Spanish, was first used to describe seismic events with a screw-like shape observed at Geleras Volcano, Colombia. Tornillo events are likely caused by the movement of magma. Tornillo is also a small town in Texas, and the name of several species of Prosopis trees.
